This Activity Resource
This intriguing book shares the history and tradition of illuminated bookmaking, an art from in the Middle Ages that arose out of hand copying books. These books were “illuminated” with beautiful drawings and geometric designs — all hand drawn and colored.
Once they learn about the tradition behind this art form, students will try it themselves. Step by step, they’ll learn how to create illuminated letters of the alphabet just as the scribes did in the Middle Ages. Additional helps are included if a student wants to make a larger project or continue to advance in their skills.
