Students who have used our other language arts – LA 3 “Tracking Down Good Grammar,” LA 4 “Solving the Mysteries of Grammar,” and LA 5 “Digging Into Paragraphs” – will use the skills gained through those programs to complete the assignments in this resource. Each year grammar instruction and review is part of those programs. LA 6 “Exploring Word Pictures” includes grammar exercises for the student to complete. Lengthy instruction and reminders of previously learned grammar concepts are not include in this worktext. They are done though in a real-life format. This means that students will be determining on their own what part of speech an underlined word is, locating and correcting run-on sentences, finding and differentiating between similes and metaphors, and correcting sentences that are not punctuated correctly.
It is important to note that grammar concepts are listed in a comprehensive appendix, as part of the LA 6 “Exploring Word Pictures” guide. This reference resource is called, “Navigation Log: Grammar Concepts for Mission Log Assignments.” Students will find this resource helpful to remind them of things they already know.
